WKI will offer a Kurdish (Central Kurdish, "Sorani") language class (beginning level)starting WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 16, 2002 at The Washington Kurdish Institute 605 G Street, SW (L’Enfant Plaza or Waterfront Metro stations) 12 classes will be held on consecutive Wednesday evenings from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. (alternate arrangements will be made for classes falling on holidays) Registration fee is $185.00. (Includes all teaching materials). Students must register before the start of class and may pick up teaching materials in advance by appointment. Checks payable to Washington Kurdish Institute can be mailed to or dropped off at: Washington Kurdish Institute, 605 G Street, SW., Washington, D.C. 20024. Light refreshments are served at classes. Instructor Dr. Michael L. Chyet, a linguist/folklorist fluent in 15 languages, received his Ph.D from UC Berkeley in Languages and Cultures of the Middle East. From 1995 - 2000 he served as Senior Editor at Voice of America's Kurdish Service. Last year, Dr. Chyet taught Kurdish at INALCO (University of Paris) and the Kurdish Institute of Paris. His teaching repertoire includes Kurdish (both Kurmanji and Sorani), Arabic, Turkish, Hebrew, Aramaic and folklore. Mr. Chyet has developed teaching materials during years as an instructor of Kurmanji and Sorani. His comprehensive Kurmanji-English Dictionary will be published next month by Yale University Press.
