Kurdish Language Class Kick-Off and Dictionary Signing

Tuesday, September 23
4:00-5:00 pm
at: Middle East Institute
1761 N Street, NW, Washington, DC
(Dupont Circle metro Station - 19th St. exit)

The Washington Kurdish Institute (WKI) and Middle East Institute (MEI) are pleased to invite you to welcome author Dr. Michael Chyet at the MEI Library as we inaugurate Kurdish classes at WKI in association with MEI's Language Department. Kurdish is quickly gaining importance within Middle Eastern studies -- due in no small part to the efforts of Dr. Chyet, a scholar/linguist who has tirelessly chronicled the Kurdish language (Kurmanji dialect) in a dictionary recently published by Yale University Press. Dr. Chyet, a researcher at the Library of Congress and former senior editor at the Voice of America's Kurdish service, will speak about his work and the intricacies of the Kurdish language. He will be teaching Kurmanji and Sorani courses beginning this October at WKI. Copies of Dr. Chyet's dictionary will be available for purchase and signing. Middle Eastern refreshments will be served.
